Blogging is a journey it’s not a get rich quick scheme. Blogging can be your portfolio or providing valuable information to your visitors or solving the visitor’s knowledge queries. It can provide health, business, travel, food, financial information, or even entertainment information’s, etc.,
Have you chosen blogging as your parttime or full career? Looking for how to make money blogging? Make money through blogging is not so tedious but it’s not so easy too. You should be able to catch the visitor’s pulse and Google search algorithm. It’s not rocket science but you have to dedicate more to learn the blogging DNA to make money. Once you have learned how to make money blogging then it’s going to be your passive income.
It’s a lengthy article. So, keep away your distractions and focus on each word to understand about blogging and making money through blogging.
Here is the 10-step process on how to make money blogging
Step #1: Start your blog the right way
Just like a home needs a great foundation, so does your blog. We do this in three easy steps,
- Choose the right blog niche – the first question comes to the mind when blogging is, what the hell I blog about? Most people end up overthinking this process. The mistake most people make is when they start out, they start trying to do soul search for their passion. People will go on some yoga and meditation, retreat to find enlightenment, and find their purpose. The truth is this is kind of obsessed with what you need to do.
When finding your purpose or finding your passion it happens through taking action and getting feedback from the action.
I’d suggest you, start your blog about something that you either have experience in or something that you want to learn about.
Another way to think about this is what topic or subject do you bring up all the time with your friends and family like the one that you bring up over Thanksgiving and Christmas and during the Holidays. So, choose a blog niche in a topic that you were either interested in learning about or something that you already know.
- Select your domain name – The domain name is another word for URL and the URL of YouTube is youtube.com. This is another place where most people spend a lot of time overthinking. Your name really doesn’t matter when it comes to a business in blogging.
You’d be surprised by how little names actually mean Samsung could be a local music store, Avis could be a place where you bought drones on the Internet, and SpaceX could be a website dedicated solely to astronauts. These things define these businesses is not their name per se it’s what they do.
So, don’t overthink it. You don’t have to come up with some perfectly clever names to succeed as a Blogger. I promise.
- Set up your blog with the right hosting in the right platform – By far the best place for you to get started is WordPress. I know there are some other options out there like Wix, Squarespace but the problem with those as those websites are more geared to stand alone website. Something like a personal portfolio or resume. They’re not that great when it comes to, getting continuous blog traffic coming in overtime to your blog and having continually updated posts, or it’s not optimized for that.
If you start with the Squarespace or Wix and you’re going to end up and will go back to WordPress anyway. So just start there.
I understand that WordPress has a kind of a higher learning curve for most people but trust me this it is worth learning.
Step #2: Make your blog clean and beautiful through design.
Let’s talk some basic steps to make your blog clean and simple.
- Blog Theme – Choosing the right blog theme is like choosing a right or wrong car in a used car dealership. If you choose the wrong car, you might be spending more time on repairs, parts, and breakdowns. A constant hassle in your life. If you choose the right car and you will never have problems with it. You’re going to feel great.
The best free WordPress themes out there are Flash blog, OceanWP, and Hestia. Some of the best-paid WordPress themes are Divi and Genesis. Don’t forget to install the Elementor plugin because it’s a great page builder with drag and drop options.
- Another important part of blog design is optimizing the blog for mobile. Over 60-70% of visitors on the internet browse through their mobile. So, always keep your blog mobile-friendly.
- Choose an easy to read fonts like a Lato or an Opensans or Roboto Because I nobody got time to read that cute cursive font.
Step #3: Content Creation
It’s a million-dollar question of what should I write about. You need to create the content that other people are searching for on the internet. Every day, millions of people search on Google, Pinterest, YouTube, and look for videos, articles, and blog posts to solve their problems. If you are able to serve that content to them at best and get to the top of those search engines. Then, it’s very easy to make money online. It’s not super easy but it’s a lot easier than you think. Here’s how you do this,
- First, you start doing keyword research. There are all sorts of tools on the Internet to see how people are often typing in certain terms. Start with a tool like keywords everywhere. It’s a completely free Chrome extension that you can install and type into a search bar you will be able to see that volume of that search term being looked at.
Another great free tool that most people often use Pinterest. Type in your topic into the search bar and hit enter. After the page loads if you look to the top you will see all sorts of additional suggestions those people are looking for as well.
Using this method will help you come up with endless topics that you can cover on your blog or website.
- After using these tools for a while, you can upgrade to more professional tools like SEMrush and Google’s keyword planner which will give you more accurate search data.
- This doesn’t mean you only have to post things that people are searching for there’s room to create your sort of unique content when making money blogging. You just need to follow the 80/20 rule.
80% of the content that you create should be that things that people are searching for at problems which they are trying to solve and 20% should be where you flex on him a little bit and tell them a little bit more about you, blog, and about the things that you want to write about. After your first 5 posts are written it’s time to move on to the next step.
Step #4: Get traffic to your blog
There are lots of ways to get readers to your blog. Pinterest, Facebook, Google SEO, YouTube Instagram, guest blog, Email drips, forum, Snapchat, etc., I’m sure a dozen more than I haven’t listed there.

The biggest tip that I can give you right off the bat is to start with one traffic source.
I know there are lots of entrepreneurs like Gary telling you that you need to be everywhere, be on every social media, be on every platform but the truth is as kind of a one-man show. What is happening with most people when they try to be everywhere, they usually end up just sucking at everything. That’s why I tell my followers to try one instead of sucking at everything. Master one or two of these things.
So next question you should probably have is how do I find the perfect traffic source for my blog?
There are tonnes of different factors to consider here including competition, type of platform, demographics of your target market, and more. To make this simple here are my thoughts on the top five traffic sources.
- Facebook – Facebook holds the most users of any social platform. It also comes with the highest competition. Facebook has recently made algorithmic changes that really don’t feature blog posts anymore. Much more they are geared towards Memes and video content.
However, the Facebook group is growing very strong to meet likeminded people. It’s not the best way to drive traffic to your blog. But I would say, especially to beginners starting off. To find these groups you can just type in your search term into the Facebook search bar and hit the groups filter and you’ll see dozens and dozens of groups on almost any topic. Again, not the best way to drive traffic to your blog but a great way to interact with potential customers and peers and people you look up to in your industry.
- Instagram – Instagram is similar to Facebook where has a high number of users but it also has a high amount of competition. The thing is it is a purely visual platform yeah you can write captions in the description but really if you’re not creating dope images you’re not going to get anywhere on Instagram. So, the niches you want to be in to succeed on Instagram are going to be mainly visual things like travel, health, and fashion work really well.
Because they are visually stimulating. Unfortunately, and something to keep in mind is kind of stupidly hard to get people off of Instagram and onto your email list or on your blog. People tend to stay inside of the app and Instagram is designed it that way.
- Google – Google is similar to Facebook and Instagram that has high competition but it comes with one big difference and that, it’s a search platform. For example, the people who type in how to make money blogging will continue to type that in month after month, and the organic traffic coming in all the time to your blog. This is very different than Instagram or Facebook where things are more viral in nature and then they die off over time.
For Google, you can optimize your post and continue to be shown over and over again sucking in that organic traffic. Obviously, it’s not so easy and hard to get into the top of the search. It can take a long time to do. Just be prepared that is the route that you want to go in for the long haul. It might take you up to six months to get serious traffic to your blog.
- YouTube – YouTube is a completely different animal. The highest barrier to entry by far is most people do not want to get on camera. I understand but this provides actually an easy way to connect with your audience, build a following, and driving back to your blog. It comes with a hybrid entry, shooting videos are difficult and very time-consuming. If you’re extraordinarily good looking or don’t mind being on camera YouTube might be a great option.
- Pinterest – Like YouTube and Google, it is also a search engine. There’s an opportunity for organic traffic but unlike Google, it doesn’t take as long to get results. Because of its speed results and the fact that you can get organic traffic, Pinterest has been the number one traffic source for bloggers. If you’re in almost any niche I would definitely suggest Pinterest try.
Step #5: Build a subscriber fan club
Here is the truth, most people are never going to buy your products until they built up a certain level of trust with you. The best way to build that trust through an email list. Offer your subscribers a free quality niche content eBook. An email list is a valuable asset for a blogger and setting it up is not as hard as you think. This is a basic formula for building an email list.
- Create a Lead Magnet – (Example: Simple download, Checklist guide )
- Add Opt-ins to your blog posts
- Create an automated email sequence
Your blog is all set up, is beautifully designed, you get people in the door and you got first few subscribers. Now it’s time to make that money.
Step #6: Learn the different types of ways to make money blogging
We’re going to go over an overview of these different ways and I’m going to walk you through what steps you should start with a kind of what phases of your blogging journey
- Ads: There are a few different types of ads, the first one is that you probably know about is display ads. These are mostly banner or text ads while scrolling through website content and then you’ll see a banner ad for something. Another term for this is pay per click because when somebody clicks on it you get paid.
Sponsored content: This is when somebody like a company pays you to write a review or write something about their product.
Give away: This is very similar to sponsored content but instead of getting paid by cash, you will get their trail product or lifetime deal.
- Affiliate Marketing: Affiliate marketing is, you will earn money to promote or sell another company’s product or service. The payment might be fixed for each sale or it might percentage value(commission) of the product.
For example, you write content about your top 5 favorite books on whatever your topic your blog is about. What you can do is you can link those books in the blog posts and link them to Amazon. When somebody clicks and checks out that book and you will get your commission.
Affiliate marketing is a huge category and you can make a lot of money on it and I’ll go over that in the next section.
- Sell your own digital products: This is how Michelle makes over $100,000 per month through blogging. She sells her own digital products and services.
There are few different kinds you can sell Story or informational or guide ebooks, these are electronic books like Kindle downloads. You can sell printables and workbooks where people can purchase a printable that you’ve created and print them out and use them for themselves. Something like a Journal or a workbook.
- Online course / Membership websites: Online teachings and training, you can teach them via video calls. Where people pay a certain amount to get access to regularly updated content usually by yourself.
- Physical products: You’ll find physical products actually a lot easier to sell because they are tangible goods. When the customer buys that product, they get something tangible back but that’s much more satisfying usually than a digital product.
But also, as well there are margins and other things. You have to ship the product, you have to create the product, and you have to manufacture the product. That’s a lot more steps than selling something like a digital product.
It’s a great way to do this because you’re already building massive trust with your audience those are the types of ways to make money blogging.
Step #7: Start with ads and sponsored posts
The first thing that we see bloggers doing when they first start their website is usually throwing up Google AdSense on their website to make a quick buck. But the problem is that the reality of your ad earnings is probably going to fall pretty short of your expectations when we do this.
The first time I remember we threw up these ads and we thought we were going to get a tonne of money coming in automatically every month because we had a decent readership. I think after a full month or a full week, we only made $1.93 that’s not enough for even three Taco Bell tacos.
You can understand that that wasn’t working mathematically for us. As a viable way to make a tonne of money, I thought I was going to write up ads forever but that was only until I learn the blogging in the proper way. Later on, now we make over $3000 to $4000 a month. Our blogs get a lot of traffic like over 300,000 views a month and because we get that amount traffic was able to partner with premium ad networks so really specialize awesome networks that can give us higher returns on the ads.
Here’s a recommendation for newbies like yourself. Ads are a kind of good art for newbies just because it can be motivational or give you a little inspiration at the beginning but it is not the primary way you need to be monetized and be focused on the bigger picture.
Try to wait until you’re getting a consistent amount of traffic so you can partner with premium ad networks. The one that we partner with is AdThrive but there are a few others including media.net, propeller ads and I’m sure a few more are there. This will get you a lot more money than just throwing up Google AdSense and praying that somebody clicks.
Sponsored posts: Sponsored posts as explained before are where people are paying you to write an article on your blog. Usually kind of reviewing their product or service. These articles often come in the form of product reviews and recommendations.

Step #8: Progress and master affiliate marketing
There are risks associated with every form of monetization method when it comes to blogging. But affiliate marketing is unique as it will teach you not only how to sell but it will also prepare you for creating your future products.
Mastering affiliate marketing is usually kind of one of the key steps to becoming a successful blogger. You’ll see that a lot of successful bloggers first start on affiliate marketing and start making money through affiliate marketing, learn affiliate marketing then progress on higher-margin affiliate products.
How you do this with Amazon associates is easy. The reason I tell you to start here is, that everybody uses Amazon. It makes a very simple way to get your first few transactions and feeling good about blogging. It’s potential right off the get-go. Getting signed up isn’t too hard just to type in Amazon associates to Google and you can join for free. Once you’re approved you can recommend any Amazon product on your blog. This creates an awesome form of passive income for most bloggers we make over $500 per month doing this.
Once you sold a few products on amazon. It’s time to start leveling up your affiliate marketing and thinking about going to big affiliate networks and partnering with a bigger product.
There are networks like Clickbank, Shareasale, CJ Affiliate, Rakuten and so many more. These networks are going to give you a much higher price Commission than something like Amazon but keep in mind they’re going to be much more difficult to sell.
You have to learn how to build a lot of trust with your readers and that’s why I said at the beginning you start an email list because that’s the best place to start selling higher-priced affiliate courses and products.
Step #9: Create your own products and services
We started by promoting our health product and other things in the other blog and we were making about $5 per sale. Even when we’re selling 10 products per day were only making about $1500 per month. $1500 a month is great and it’s an amazing amount of money but it is not a full-time income for a Blogger.
The product that we were selling was alright or like I think we can make it better what if we try to make this product even better than the ones that were already selling. Sell it to the audience they know us and trust us and like us. It sold well and also our audience loved it.
The most important part of this process is that $5 per sale turned into a $37 sale for that product and we had just seven times extra money.
That is the power of creating your products and services you control the margins, you control the prices, you control the sales page, you control the entire system, and the entire flow of selling is your problem. That’s why all the biggest bloggers whom you know, all are making the most money by selling their stuff. This does not have to be digital products either this can be physical products as well. The key here is to do something better than what is before you don’t want to go around and replace your affiliate links.
You can sell your services whether you’re a public speaker, virtual assistant, freelance writer, or designer. You can sell all of these products and services on your blog. Selling your products is the only true way to scale your blog and this is how you take something from $1000 a month to $10,000 a month.
Step #10: Scale and optimize
This is the really fun part because You’ve done a lot of hard work. Now your job was to just scale what you do. Again, this is what makes blogging such a different thing. Let’s say working for somebody, they’re going to pay you $50,000 a year to do customer service.
But when you’re blogging and creating a product or service just a few tweaks here and there will make a blog post to go viral or are creating some new content, immediately raises your income and this is kind of a two-part process.
I want to show you how it works really quickly.
Sales = Traffic x Conversion Rate
I want to show you how it works. Your conversion rate at your sales page is 1%. If you have 1000 visitors on your sales page, then you make 10 sales. Now you add a couple of testimonials and make some tweaks in your sales funnel, which makes your conversion rate 2%. That will bring 20 sales so you just doubled your income.
That’s crazy now let’s say you start working on Google SEO as an additional traffic source. You are able to get an extra 1000 customers to your sales page that doubles your sales page.
2000 visitors x 2% = 40 sales
You’ve just quadrupled your income. That is the big difference between blogging and going out and making 50 grand a year working as a customer service manager.
It is a giant leap because of the amount of work you do end up reflecting much better. Because you can often see the changes right in front of your eyes it’s very cool to watch.
